After concussion – *Things people don’t get about BTI affected people*

Source: After concussion – you’re not stupid, it just feels that way

Hola amigos!! *just showing off some bilingual skills of mine* I hope all is going well. I came across this above post while I was just surfing up some facts about concussion A.K.A Brain Traumatic Injury, something that I was affected with last month due to a bicycle accident. I had several visible injuries, a metacarpal fracture and this BTI. The visible injuries seemed painful, the fracture seemed irritating but in real, my concussion was the most unbearable. It affected my life in a way I can’t describe so it’s really important that you read this above source link before you continue reading this. If you’ve ever been affected with a concussion before, you would know that this BTI can sometimes totally change you in a totally different person. Sometimes, it feels like people can’t understand you at all. For me, I feel like I’ve lost interest in many things that were once my FAVORITE. Things get a little tough sometimes even after this one or two months since the trauma. This feeling gets really nagging sometimes but that’s the thing, a person suffering from this don’t want to explain it. Thus it is really important to be a little more cautious around people suffering from BTI.

Though I am not a doctor, specialist or something, well actually I haven’t even started high school yet; but we should always be concerned about our health issues. Yes people do get a lot of attention during the first week of their trauma but then people around us take the post traumatic affects as some kind of attention seeking trick. This is hence important that if you are suffering from some kind of PTSD, feel little useless or *stupid* you shouldn’t stress yourself about people’s behavior around you. It is also important for people around us to take some precautions for example saying some things you should avoid saying to someone with a BTI:-

1. They seem fine.

2. They are getting cranky

3.  They are not trying hard enough to be normal again.

4. Forcig them to acknowledge the efforts being made for them.

5. Making them feel dependent on you.

6. They are not understanding (being stupid)                                                                                      7.They are blessed to be alive

Trust me you DO NOT want to say these things to someone with a brain injury but if you do, wear a helmet as a precaution or call an ambulance forehand.

  1. People said all those things to me and it made me so angry. But I now can see they where trying to offer encouragement, it was just misguided. Glad to hear you are doing better now.
